Cranial Sacral Balancing

Cranial Sacral Balancing is a form of gentle bodywork that explores the dynamics of the cranial sacral system, which is the primarily fibrous covering around the brain and spine, and the fluid within this covering. I like to describe it as a hug for the nervous system. CSB helps initiate a parasympathetic shift away from the "flight or fight" state many of us live in most of the time.   Cranial Sacral Balancing is subtle and gentle work.

I use techniques of Cranial Sacral Balancing and other forms of hands-on restorative bodywork to address issues in the whole body. I incorporate long holds, gentle traction, and light compression to encourage the body to self-correct. This work can be helpful in dealing with headaches, releasing old injuries, and encouraging deep relaxation and lightening of moods and emotions.

Many of my clients aren't initially familiar with Cranial Sacral Balancing, but have experienced other forms of energetic bodywork like acupuncture. Cranial Sacral Balancing uses the same principle--that there are areas in our bodies that hold stuck energy due to trauma, injury, or held memories--but addresses it in a different way. During Cranial Sacral Balancing, clients may lose their proprioception, or the sense of where they are in time and space, the way you do when floating in water. This allows them to be wholly present in their body and let it release held energy through subtle self-correcting movements. As the practitioner, my job is to follow these micro-movements to encourage the body to return to a state of balance. This work is done clothed, on a massage table.

I encourage everyone to try Cranial Sacral Balancing, but particularly people who perhaps do not benefit from regular massage. I have found it to be instrumental in my own life as a highly sensitive person who gets overstimulated by massage. It has helped me better relax on and off the table, work through issues of trauma and trust, and identify holding patterns in my own life that keep me from making progress.  I also appreciate that the client stays clothed during Cranial Sacral work, which often makes it easier for them to relax and trust the therapist.

I offer standard 60 and 90 minute sessions, as well as a mini 30-minute session, which can be great during periods of intense stress when the nervous system is struggling to settle down. For many people, it is the perfect antidote for anxiety, panic attacks, or other mental health struggles.

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement.

Your body will be processing and integrating what happened during the session for up to 48 hours because this work encourages communication between your body and mind, conscious and subconscious, and inner and outer worlds. While you may feel changes during your session, you will likely continue to experience shifts for a couple days. I encourage you to notice any differences, and write them down. They are often important insights to be explored further. Clients may notice:

  1. Dreams may be more vivid or compelling.

  2. Long-forgotten memories may arise.

  3. Physical shifts may occur within your body or with its behavior. You may notice differences in physical sensations or sleep patterns.

  4. Synchronicities, "aha" moments, or inspiration may arise.
